Hello, beauties! I shared this recipe on my Instagram account right before Thanksgiving. I wanted to share how to make a healthy gluten-free apple crisp here on the blog in case you love apples, cinnamon and nuts. It’s so easy to make that you won’t believe it and the perfect dessert for the upcoming holidays.

Ingredients

  • 2 apples
  • 1 cup almond flour (oat flour)
  • 2 cups pecans (almonds, walnuts or any nut)
  • 4 dates (or 2 tbsp. coconut/cane sugar)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil (ghee or unsalted butter)
  • 1/4 cup almond butter (peanut butter)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup (honey or agave)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 F.
  • Peel the skin off the apples and slice them.
  • Bring a pot of water to a boil and place the apples in a steaming basket over the boiling water and cover. Steam for about five minutes.
  • Place the pecans, almond flour, salt and dates in a blender or food processor. Blend until combined, about 30 seconds.
  • Add the coconut oil and almond butter. Blend again for about 30 seconds.
  • In an ovenproof skillet, press 2/3 of the mixture into the bottom.
  • In a bowl, mix the steamed apples, maple syrup, and cinnamon.
  • Transfer the apples into the skillet on top of the first layer of crust.
  • Crumble the remaining mixture on top of the apples.
  • Bake for 30 minutes or unit the top is crunchy and golden brown.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream and enjoy.
